D Now (on the road) April 15-17

I can’t even explain how pumped I am about D-Now coming up! We are taking it on the road this year to Plains Baptist Assembly just outside Floydada. Packets with all the information and registration forms you need will be mailed out tomorrow morning. They are also available here.

We really think every single one of our students needs to be a part of D-Now. I hope you’ll help me encourage your kids to sign up and to get their friends to sign up too! Let me know if you have any questions, need more information, or need financial assistance.

XP3 Road Trip

This Sunday we’ll be taking students to Lubbock for an XP3 Road Trip! Instead of our usual meeting time/place we’ll leave the church at 4:00 for Lubbock for supper and then a ton of fun at Bodyworks in Lubbock for laser tag, ropes course, and giant bounce houses! The cost will be $10 plus money for supper and snacks. Everybody going MUST have a waiver signed by a parent. I’ll have these available Sunday morning. We’ll be home by 11:00 Sunday night.

File Family Fundraiser

Several area youth groups are hosting a fundraiser lunch this Sunday, January 30 immediately after morning services at First United Methodist Church. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the File family as they continue to recover from the loss of their home. The entire community is invited, but here’s how we need your help specifically:

1. We will need some students to volunteer to help with the set up Sunday morning at FUMC.

2. We will need students to bring a dessert (brownies, cookies, etc.) for the lunch.

I hope you and your kids will plan on being a part of this awesome ministry!

E3 Christmas

The E3 Christmas party is this Sunday, December 19 from 6:30-8:30 pm. We will meet upstairs in the youth room for a meal (lasagna, salad, etc.). Then we will have a Christmas scavenger hunt. At the end of the hunt we will meet at walmart where we will purchase some Christmas gifts for some children here in Levelland that wouldn’t get anything without some help. We will have all the youth back at the church by 8:30.

Make sure your teens can be here and if possible bring $5 to help with the gifts we will be purchasing.

E3 This Week

There are 2 awesome opportunities for your teens to serve this week!

1. Thursday night our senior adults are having their annual Harvest Banquet at the church. Our students will be serving them. What an incredible chance to serve those who have served us so generously for so long! Students need to be at the church by 5:30 Thursday and need to dress nice.

2. Saturday morning we will be taking students to Mardel in Lubbock to load the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes from the entire area into an 18-wheeler. We will leave the church at 8:00. After we finish at Mardel we will take all the students out to lunch…we’ll even pay! Should be home by 2:00.

See You At The Pole

Every year on a Wednesday morning in September thousands of students all across the world gather at their school flag pole to pray together for their schools, their communities, and their nations. This year See You At The Pole will take place Wednesday, September 22 at 7:30 in the morning at our local schools.

This year our local youth ministers have gotten together and decided to have a community Saw You At The Pole rally that Wednesday night instead of taking all our individual groups to various rallies in Lubbock. The Saw You At The Pole rally will be at the Levelland football stadium at 7:30 Wednesday night, September 22. There will be a band and a speaker sharing with all our students and we will use this as a time to promote unity among our students for the sake of growing the Kingdom of God in our local schools.

I hope you will encourage your kids to be a part of See You At The Pole next Wednesday  at 7:30 am as well as Saw You At The Pole next Wednesday at 7:30 pm.

Local Missions

This week is local missions week for our youth ministry. Our students are serving and ministering to our local children’s home, Children’s Hope, by painting walls in their new facility. Today was the first day and we nearly finished painting in the boys’ bedrooms! They did an awesome job! We will finish the bedrooms tomorrow and begin painting in some of the offices. If you haven’t seen the new facility yet, stop by what used to be West Elementary tomorrow afternoon. We will be heading out at 12:30 again tomorrow. Don’t let your kids miss this incredible opportunity to be a part of our local missions week!

It’s Here….

We’ve been waiting…counting down the days since Spring Break (or since Christmas…or perhaps since Labor Day). Now it’s time to throw away alarm clocks, break in new flip flops, shop for new swim suits (no two-pieces of course), and prepare for the shortest 12 weeks known to mankind. That’s right! It’s SUMMER!!!

Since I was a kid summer has always been a time for me to focus on all the church trips…camps, mission trips, concerts, six flags, VBS, more mission trips, putt-putt golf tournaments, trips to the lake…you get the point. Our church inundated us with non-stop activity from the last day of school till the first day of school. And I can honestly say those were the days I grew closer to God, learned more about what it means to follow Jesus, and built incredible Christ-honoring friendships.

Summer has changed…A LOT…since I was a kid. Sometimes it seems like the start of the school year is a welcome respite from the busyness of the summer months. Our summers are totally consumed by things like basketball camp, cheer camp, football camp, band camp, theater camp, practices, basketball tournaments, baseball tournaments (do you remember when basketball and baseball were seasonal sports?), summer jobs, college classes (do you remember when college was something we did after high school…and when we never did school during the summer?), 7 on 7 football, etc., etc., etc.

I know many of you have experienced first-hand just how crazy summer can be. And at the same time I can’t minimize the importance of things like mission experiences, camps, and other intentional and strategic ministry activities that take place during the summer months when it comes to the spiritual growth of teens. So this summer we’ve made some changes to the summer schedule that should make it easier for everyone to participate. We only have one week-long out of town trip…MPact…which will include a mission experience, discipleship and worship times, and a lot of fun! But we have built into the summer many one day ministry events, local mission experiences, and family events.

Take a look at our E3 Summer of the 10 schedule. If you’re on FaceBook join the E3 Student Ministry group. Check the church website regularly. Find times that your teen can be involved. Find times that you can be involved. Join me in being very intentional about helping our students grow closer to God, learn more about what it means to follow Jesus, and build incredible Christ-honoring friendships this summer.
